Hi Guys! So as you all know for a lot of people in the general population it can be really difficult to stay positive, optimistic and generally just have really good vibes about you and throughout your day. Specifically for people of our generation (I’m talking the 16 – 28 threshold), It can be increasingly difficult to actually feel good about yourself. We are the Milleniall generation and thus have been brought up completely differently to our older generation counterparts. Growing up with MTV, Internet and video games changed us, but so did the era of social media and never being able to leave your friends at school, work or college. Our friends and family constantly live in our pockets leaving little time for alone time and self love in your own comfortable space. Not only has social media forever changed the nature and dynamic of our generation but so has Insta-celebs. The huge bloggers with 501k followers and the big brands constantly marketing their products towards you. The un-realistic standards set by fabulously dressed and constantly travelled instagram oligarchs, who obviously have the world at their feet to be and to do whatever it is they desire are really having an affect on young people who lead normal lives and dream of having the world as their oyster. My point is; the new lifestyle our generation is living is non-stop; by non-stop I mean it’s non-stop comparison, non-stop negative self talk and non-stop feelings of hopelessness.
Now I’m not saying that this is down to famous instagram and Youtube celebrities and that it is all the fault. God no. But, WE as a generation need to look at them as inspiration, rather than deprivation of what we have. We need to stop comparing ourselves to glamorous beauty gurus and realise practise makes perfect. We need to stop preeing instagram fitspo’s and feeling down about ourselves, and actually realise that we could achieve an amazing bod by just listening and learning. The younger generation has a way about turning everything negative or judging everything. It’s time to take our pessimist hats off, and put our optimist ones back on.
Don’t feel pressured in the wrong way, but better yet, feel pushed in the right way. That’s the key to feeling a lot more positive about yourself, and what’s going on around us in the age of social media and advertising and marketing. Let’s look at things from a different perspective and just stay positive.
